The Washington redskins has been a national football team since 1932. "Redskins" is a a name used originally by native Americans, and also approved by local natives. I believe the redskins name shouldn't be changed because the name gives pride and honor to the redskins tribe. Charles Krauthammer states how years ago, the word "retarded" was simply a word meaning idiotic, but was made into a derogatory term used against the disabled. So the issue is not the team name itself but the ability to change the name. We cannot make statements saying something is offensive, when we have no experience in the issue. The Washington redskins have been around for over 40 years, why change the name now?
