The story of Rip Van Winkle by Washington Irving is an American Mythology. It takes place in the time of the American Revolutionary War in New York’s Kaatskill Mountains. Rip Van Winkle is a Dutch-American villager. The writer Washington Irving includes mysterious events and the cause of the consequences.
Washington Irving does a great job incorporating these three mythical story characteristics into Rip Van Winkle. First, the story is set during the Revolutionary War which was a long time ago. Second, he may exaggerate quite a bit in his stories. Third, it takes place in a remote Dutch Village and also during the reign of King George III.
