I was drowning out the world with the music playing through my phone, twirling the headphone cord around my finger. My hand brushed across the paper as I erased some pencil markings. I observed the text on the brightly lit screen of my chromebook, searching for the answers to the questions on my homework. I stared at the screen with a look of confusion on my face. Little did I know that the next few moments would put my hard work to some use.
It was a gorgeous day in late spring of 2015. There was the perfect amount of wind and the sun was shining brightly. You could smell spring in the air. It was so beautiful outside... and I was stuck in my bedroom. I had received much more than a few papers that were expected to be done before class the

In social studies, we had already started talking about the Washington D.C. trip. The trip was almost a whole year away. There was no way that I'd be able to pay the fee in time. I wanted to go on the trip so badly. When I had finally accepted that I wouldn't be going on the trip- we were told about a scholarship. The scholarship would pay for the whole trip and only two students in the whole 7th grade would win. I knew the odds weren't very good, but I was willing to give it a shot. When I had submitted my entry for the scholarship, I just had to wait. I had waited a week or so at this …show more content…
I could tell that it was my mom's footsteps by the thud of her shoes. I returned to my homework as the footsteps continued roaming around the house. This time when I looked for the answer that had stumped me earlier, I found it easily. Just when I grabbed my pencil to jot down the answer, my bedroom door opened. It was exactly who I had expected it to be, my mother. She had a look of jubilation on her face. I was thinking of the reasons why, but my thoughts were obstructed by my mom starting to ask about my day. I explained how my day went to her. We talked a little more after that. But throughout the conversation, a question still lingered in my mind. What had made her so

Since I was born, New York City has been my life, my blood, and bones; I have grown and lived with many different people with different backgrounds. My neighborhoods have shaped me into who I am today, I am flexible and open, like raw clay, enough to be changed and formed. Then there is the Bronx, a borough of New York, where you have to be strong, or you will not survive, a place where all races are together, and everyone is noisy. I live in a community where there are mostly Hispanics, and where there are always car passing by and honking, during the day it is the only sound you can here, and ear-piercing bird calls, but during the night there is always some kind of party, either that or just really loud music. I have grown to get use…

When I visited George Washington my sophomore year of high school, I instantly knew that your school is where I wanted to go for college. It just wasn't like any of the other colleges that I had seen before, and for that matter it was unlike any I have seen since. I saw that GW is in a beautiful location and that its presence in the capitol greatly enhances both its value and the city’s around it. I really liked walking around the campus, as it was extremely vibrant. I saw that safety is also important, and the combination of security that holds jurisdiction in this area is extremely reassuring.…

The computer screen stared back into my soul as I began to read directions about the assignment. It seemed like a decent amount of research was needed, so I opened a new tab to see my best friend, Google. Each click of the mouse seemed to make a different noise, some loud, some soft, some high pitched, some a hollow noise. I scrolled through each unappealing page, and it felt like I was staring into the sun. I could not stand to look at this paper for another minute, but I still had a long way to go.…

Venturing off-campus to the nearby Dutterer Family Park, I was despondent. Perhaps it was because I was thinking about how and when I was going to complete this assignment or maybe it was that I was missing home. Whatever the case, I was melancholy. Upon arrival, I sat myself on a nearby wooden bench, took out the assignment sheet, the photo mat, a piece of paper, and a pencil. Still feeling gloomy, I closed my eyes and took a few minutes to clear my mind.…

She passed me as I was coming to the end of my run along Highbridge Park" which is more of a dump site than park for Washington Heights. As the girl moved in front of me, I noted her strong stride, but it was her resplendent ass that gave me a hard pace.…
