Was Truman's Assassination Justified

I feel that president Truman’s justifications for the atomic bombs were subversive, superficial and misleading. He wanted to prevent an invasion of Japan in order to save lives. Since theoretically the casualty count of the bombings would have be much fewer than the impending invasion. He also wanted to prevent Soviet involvement, as well as displaying to them the might of the puissant U.S. military.
To me, it just comes down to the semantics of the final ultimatum from the Potsdam Conference. Japan just wanted to maintain the integrity of someone they viewed as a deity. They were not asking for him to retain his position only to be exonerated of war crimes. They were willing to agree to nearly every other term. So how can bringing

With over 200,000 casualties due to his mindset, he failed to account for the other opportunities he had to guarantee America’s success in the war. Other alternatives that could have been substituted for the dropping of the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki include receiving assistance from the Soviet Union, intensifying existing war strategies and compromising on Japan’s capitulation. With all these in mind, President Truman had no right to put atomic bombs to use on the Japanese population. It is a shame that Harry Truman missed all these opportunities to end World War Two earlier than it did just because he saw it more fit to drop atomic bombs on a civilian population. This does not justify his actions though as mankind can never unseal the great magnitude of nuclear…

The use of a second atomic bomb was because Japan did not surrender after the first. This is why the option to only demonstrate the atomic bomb to Japan would not have worked (Document E). Truman as the leader of the free world took a lot of flak for his decisions of dropping the atomic bombs in japan because people felt as though he didn’t have to go that far, but ask yourself if you were under the same circumstances how would you react to these issues. There wasn’t any right decision to make it, the only choice was to make the decision that saved the most lives and saved the most money. To be able to say whether or not the bombings should have happened, you must first understand the thought and planning that came behind this action. Walkers believes that if Truman truly didn’t want to use the bomb, he somehow could have found a way to not use it. Walker also states that he believes that any president in Truman’s positon would have found the use of the atomic bomb to be necessary. This being said, we can more clearly depict that Walker thought that the use of the atomic bomb was in a way necessary. Although, whether or not it was necessary, it was most definitely not the morally correct way to end the World War II states…

Truman saw that by ending this war, it would not only save American lives, but also Europeans, Indians, Koreans, Vietnamese, and Chinese lives. In fact, according to Newman’s essay Dropping the Bomb was Necessary and Justifiable “ Harry Truman ordered the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki primarily to end the war as soon as possible and save lives”(Newman,414). However, I believe it is important to understand that it was not just Truman’s decision to drop the bomb. In fact the Interim Committee was put together for the purpose of supporting Truman with making decisions regarding the atomic bomb. In a primary document of recommendation the Interim Committee suggests the combat use of the bomb against Japan.…

On the other hand, the use of the atomic bomb (the existence of which the other Allied leaders were unaware of until the Potsdam Conference in July 1945, less than a month before they were used) is considered by many to have been the final straw that began the Cold War, since President Truman wanted to show the atomic bomb’s power to Stalin in a manner of the so-called atomic diplomacy (Source…

Ferrell, Truman had two main reasons for dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. First of all, there was an emotional reason that had to do with Japan’s surprise bombing of Pearl Harbor (Ferrell 209). After the bombings in Japan Truman responded to a letter asking why he had done it with stating, “You should do your weeping at Pearl Harbor, where thousands of American boys are underneath waves caused by a Japanese sneak attack while we were at peace with Japan” (211). He mentioned how people, “tend to forget” that at the time of Pearl Harbor, the United States were trying to remain in peace with Japan by organizing a treaty (211). He continues the letter by stating that as a result of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, “Altogether, there were between 3,000 and 6,000 youngsters killed at the time without any declaration of war.…

Decades after the atomic bombs were dropped on the Japanese cities Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Americans still question whether it was a good idea to drop them. One of the reasons the bombs should have been dropped is the bombing of Pearl Harbor. The United States and Japan were at peace until Japan bombed a military base in Hawaii and afterward, president Franklin D. Roosevelt declared war on Japan. In his well-known infamy speech, FDR stated, “I ask that the Congress declare that since the unprovoked and dastardly attack by Japan on Sunday, December 7th, 1941, a state of war has existed between the United States and the Japanese empire.” America and its people saw the bombing as an act of war and in return, they declared war.…
