When FDR announced the aim of the New Deal, many cheered, while other fell into gloom. This is because some say the New Deal of the early 1900’s was a total success, while others say it was a complete failure. At the same time as the heavily debated New Deal, there was also the infamous Great Depression. An economic crisis so great, thousands upon thousands of businesses shut downs, and thousands of thousands people starved. The cause of the notorious bust, happened shortly after the stock market crash of October 1929, which cause panic, and demolished great sums of investors (History.com, The Great Depression). Not only that, but during the time of need, unemployment rates drastically changed, when they went up an entire 21 percent in only 3 years. So the real question is, was the New Deal a total success, or a failure? I believe, due to the countless evidence from multiple reliable, primary sources, that the New Deal was a success. This is because of the impressive drop in unemployment rates, the initiation of hot lunches for children, and the improvement in the Indian tribes.

With the courageous efforts to decline unemployment rates, the WPA allowing starving children to find hope with nourishing hot lunches, and an impressive rise in the Indian tribes, all point to good things about the New Deal. Although the country is no longer in a crippling economic attack, the New Deal just might have saved us from the horrendous event from ever occurring again.
