The Holocaust Argumentative Essay

856 Words 4 Pages
The Holocaust as we know it was the mass murder of six million Jews during WWII. There is a ton of evidence to support this tragic event, yet there are still some people that believe that the Holocaust was not real or that it was greatly exaggerated. These non-believers refer to themselves as the Holocaust deniers. Why would one deny such a large historical event that has so much evidence to back it up? Most people today accept the mass genocide and have learned from it, but others refuse to reason with it. Hopefully i can persuade you to believe that the Holocaust did in fact occur. It all began when Adolf Hitler was elected chancellor in 1933. The Nazi party, run by Hitler, believed that the Jewish race was inferior and needed to be exterminated. …show more content…
The first and personally the most convincing, is photographic evidence. There are many images of the concentration camps, piles of dead bodies, gas chambers, and crowds of malnourished Jews all throughout textbooks and history articles. If pictures still aren 't convincing enough then there are also many eye witnesses that have spoken about it. While on trial for war crimes Oskar Groening, a former Nazi guard said “I did not expect any Jews to survive Auschwitz” (Matthew Schofield, Auschwitz guard offers Germans something rare: A Nazi who admits what he did, mcclatchydc.com). Irving Roth a Holocaust survivor said “I came from a city in Hungary with 4,000 people — 24 hours later, 300 of us were still alive” (Megan Pacer, Speaking from experience: Holocaust survivor shares story, http://peninsulaclarion.com). And if that still isn 't enough evidence, there are remains of concentration camps that can be found throughout Germany. At these sites there are warehouses where the Jews were held, furnaces used to burn bodies, and remains of gas …show more content…
Deniers believe that either it did not happen at all or that the death toll was exaggerated. One big detail that the deniers bring up is the fact that there are no documents declaring that Jews be exterminated, and there are no documents signed by Hitler (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, Holocaust deniers and public misinformation , www.ushmm.org). It is true there aren 't documents that tell Nazis to kill the Jewish people, But such commands were all given verbally. Some deniers question why there are survivors of the Holocaust if its intent was to kill all Jews (the-militant-atheist.org,Problems with the Holocaust, the-militant-atheist.org). Though it was tough, it was not impossible to escape the camps. One could escape by hiding in under carriage of a train, run and dodge bullets, or simply be liberated by allies. Deniers also like to say that there is no evidence of gas chambers. But there are remains of them and many survivors and guards say that thats how many Jews were killed. (Kenneth Kronenberg, Nobody was gassed at Auschwitz, remember.org). Another question asked is why bodies weren 't found at some of the alleged mass burial sites. When Germany realized that soldiers were headed toward them the Nazis demolished many concentration camps and burnt all other evidence in attempt to get rid of all
