“Was it Necessary to Drop the Atomic Bomb to End World War II?” The United States of America was and still is one of the biggest countries in the world when it comes to power and demand. Developing such a weapon as the Atomic bomb that can scare and destroy anyone and anything, was in United States favor. But was it really necessary to use a weapon this powerful and dangerous? Yes, I think so. This essay is about my and the two professors Robert James Maddox and Tsuyoshi Hasegawa point of view; if it was necessary to drop the Atomic bombs to end the war. During the World War II the president of the United States was Franklin D. Roosevelt but he died at the end of the war April 12, 1995. According to Maddox, the American officials thought that the Japanese would say something else about the explosion. They would not believe that the bomb were an Atomic bomb. They believed that Japanese hard-liners would make up something to not believe that is was a Atomic bomb. They said it was a natural catastrophe that had occurred. Even the Japanese minister of war did not believe that the town Hiroshima just had been bombed by an atomic bomb. But when the United States dropped the second bomb the Japanese minister of war told his companions that “the Americans appeared to have one hundred atomic bombs…they could drop three per day. The next target might well be Tokyo”. …show more content…
It felt like they were competing about being the biggest and most powerful country, especially the United States. That is why I also think they dropped the bombs. They maybe did not want to share the victory with the Soviet Union. I mean, if they did not drop the bombs, the Soviet Union would have invaded Japan because they had an agreement with the United States that after three months after the war in Europe was done, they would help them with Japan. So United States had to act so they could get the victory. From that point of view, It’s seems like they just wanted to win the war but on the other hand as I said before, they ended it very quickly. You can almost say that the United States saved a lot of the Soviet Union’s lives when the dropped the bomb. The Soviet Union did not have to invade Japan because after the bombs Japan surrendered. To conclude this essay, I think the United States did the right decision.
