Was Morris Responsible For His Father's Paw

Decent Essays
I believe that Morris was the main one who was responsible for the inconveniences that occurred. Morris was the one who had brought the paw inside the house to show his parents. He was the one who didn't tell his parents that something bad would happen if they used it. Also he is the one who didn't fight to get the monkeys paw back from his father.

Morris was the one who had brought the paw inside the house to show his parents. If he wouldn't of brought the paw inside, there would of been a bigger chance of him and his parents getting along. If he had to bring the paw inside, he could of at the least made sure that they didn't find out about it. Also now that his stubborn father has it he will probably never give it back.

He was the one who didn't tell his parents that something bad would happen if they used it. All he told his parents is " its more than just the wish"then he left. So if he would of told his parents what actually would happened, he could of really helped them.

From the way the poem sounded the man sounded old. So with his father being decently old, he probably could of retrieved the paw back with ease. Maybe he purposely didn't attempt to retrieve the paw. Did he want revenge on his parents? But then it backfired?

After all of this is said this is why Morris is the character who has most of the blame put on him in this story. There is no way in the world he could play the innocent card on this either. He had many of chances to fight for the paw back. For example when the father and mother asked "what happens with it" right then and there he could of came out and told

“Where there is no imagination, there is no horror” (Arthur Conan Doyle). In the short story “The Monkey’s Paw” by William Wymark Jacobs, our imagination certainly plays a part in our emotions while reading. The short story was about a man who uses a monkey’s paw to change his fate, sort of like a genie in a bottle. The man soon finds out that changing fate comes at a price. While “The Monkey’s Paw” is a typical horror story, it fits so well with the horror genre because of the suspense the story creates, the setting choices, and the source of horror.…

William W. Jacobs displays his existentialist nature through themes of freedom, responsibility, and death. In “The Monkey’s Paw,” Jacobs demonstrates these themes progressively through his characters and their actions after a cursed talisman eradicates all limitations. Arash Farzaneh defines existentialism as the measurement of humankind’s “responsibility when facing a universe devoid of laws.” Fundamentally unbound by religious conviction, humankind is required to take responsibility for their actions accordingly if they are to be truly free (Farzaneh). Jacobs establishes through his character Mr. White that humanity must accept responsibility for their own choices, regardless of the consequences that may follow.…
