In Macbeth once Duncan is killed, both of his sons flee knowing that they must be next on the list to be killed. They did not want the same fate that their father had received. Macbeth and his wife are scared that the prophecy will come true and now Banquo with be the next king. So Macbeth sets a plan to kill Banquo he states; " It is concluded. Banquo, thy soul’s flight, If it finds heaven, must find it out to-night” ( III.i 155-156). Once Banquo has been killed they were not expecting one of Duncan's sons to come back from England to challenge Macbeth for the throne.
