Was Julius Caesar A Tyrant?

Don’t be fooled in thinking that Julius Caesar was a wonderful hero. In the story, “Killing Caesar,” Julius Caesar was a controlling and horrible tyrant. He had taken the Senate’s power in order to gain more power. Not only did he use the power to gain control of all of Rome, but he also wanted the gods to be ranked before him. Many innocent lives had been lost because of this tyrant man. To start with, Caesar had taken control of literally everything in Rome. For example, in the story, Caesar was ruling it the ways he wanted it. It states, “Sanitation, sewage, and food, all were seemingly under the control of Caesar” He was the only one to have this power. Everyone else would have been ranked below him. Caesar got all this power by stealing it from the Senate. This action can be shown that he is a tyrant. The story states, “The Senate had ruled Rome poorly, caring more about their own political squabbles than the people, and now Caesar had taken their power.” The Senate raged about this because they were supposed to be the ones in charge. …show more content…
It can be found in the text that Caesar was definitely power-hungry and greedy. It states, “But now that he was first in Rome, Caesar did not intend to stop until the gods themselves were second to his greatness,” This shows that he wanted to be the highest rank there ever was. Another example would be the opinions that some of the character have towards him. One of those character’s names is, Brutus, and he absolutely hated Caesar. He disliked him so much, that he was willing to kill him to get all of his power gone for good. The text says, “Slicing their palms and mingling their blood, the twelve senators swore they would kill Caesar tomorrow as he spoke in Pompey’s theatre.” The quote shows that these characters are swearing to kill him in order for Rome to be right
