I, personally, don’t think George was justified in killing Lennie, but some of the evidence from the text proves otherwise. Most people saw Lennie as a child and not a grown man, which is understandable, and that may be one reason why George wanted to get rid of him. Many times he was called a child or people would say he acted like one. For example, when Lennie brought the puppy in the bunkhouse and George made him take it back, Slim said, “He’s jes’ like a kid, ain’t he.” Lennie was constantly in trouble which made it hard for George to keep a job for long.
