Was Ferdinand Magellan Worth Defending?

Some believe Ferdinand Magellan was worth defending, while others believe he was not. I believe Magellan was worth defending. Even though Magellan’s famous voyage was the cause of many lives, Magellan contributed with lots of information to the world. This is the main reason of as to why I believe Magellan was worth defending. Throughout this essay I will be listing details supporting this thesis. A mutiny spread during Magellan’s voyage around March 1520. Three ships rose up against the Captain-Major, which was Magellan, telling him they were taking him back to Spain in arrest, as he was leading them all to destruction. Even though the sailor’s believed that Magellan was leading them to destruction, I believe the opposite. Magellan rationed the food because he felt like it would not last them throughout the entire winter (Southern Hemisphere). Magellan went to explore the Dragon’s Tail (as the European’s call Tierra del Fuego) with his armada. What Magellan was looking for was a waterway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. He sent lookouts to search for the highest perch on the ships, so they could see the land and water in their ways. Magellan also used his taste buds, as he moved along the land and waterways. When they water tasted fresher he realized he was reaching the Atlantic, as the water became saltier, he realized he was reaching the Pacific.
