People misunderstand Christopher because of his disability. Most people just assume that Christopher is incapable of being independent, but in fact he is very capable of being independent and he is gifted in mathematics.

Christopher proved his principle wrong by taking the math A levels and getting an A grade. Christopher's headmaster said she didn't want him to take it because of other students feeling lesser but in the novel it never says anything about other students feeling lesser Christopher just mentions how they other students are stupid. Christopher states that “All the other children at my school are stupid. Except i'm not meant to call them stupid, even this is what they are.” In his quote Christopher infers that he is smarter than all the other kids in his school and this is most likely why his headmaster didn't want him to take the math A levels.
