Antigone is brave, bold, courageous and honours her brother by giving him the burial she thinks he deserves, even if no one else believes he does and even when she is threatened with death by stones “Listen, Ismene: Creon buried our brother, Eteocles, with military honors, gave him a soldier's funeral, and it was right that he should--but Polyneices, who fought as bravely and died as miserably--they say that Creon has sworn no one shall bury him, no one mourn for him, but his body must lie in the fields, a sweet treasure for carrion birds to find as they search for food. Eteocles Polyneices were the brothers which were very different Eteocles was very stubborn while Polyneices was fair, loyal and devoted. Despite the fact that she has a religious and social obligation to secure her brother’s body, she does it against the wishes of the authorities. In the course of executing her plans, she tries to enlist the help of her sister, Ismene in a blatant demonstration of a conspiracy to destabilize Creon’s authority. By asserting that the King “has no right to keep me from my own”, Antigone shows extraordinary disrespect to the authority (Sophocles). This sets a dangerous precedent especially considering the fact that Polynices intended to harm the citizens of Thebes when he returned from exile. Despite the fact that Antigone’s brave decision is admirable, it is wrong for her to place her interests above the greater good of the entire city’s population.…

The story of Antigone contains many underlying themes of ethics- following them and what is really ethical. Creon, the king in the play Antigone by Sophocles, is truly an example of how complex ethics are and how complex humans are. At one quick evaluation, one might rule him as the most unethical character in the play and an example of a completely unethical person in general. However, it's more complex than that. Although he is considerably the most unethical in the play compared to other characters such as Antigone who put her family first, but I believe that Creon was somewhat ethical as well considering his point of view.…

Some have traits that describe their personalities as good, pure ones, and some have or maintain traits that display their personalities and their own selves as humans, to be substandard or inferior ones. These traits are determined by several different situations that these people get involved in. These events also display that if what each of these individuals did was done out of honor or disgrace. This relates to the characters in the poem, Antigone.…

“I am not afraid of the danger; if it means death, it will not be the worst of deaths- death without honor” (Sophocles). Although one must honor their country to the end, one must honor their family even more. As Sophocles mentions, if honoring one’s family brings death, so be it. No death will be worse than one not honored, especially by the sovereign, such as the death of Antigone’s brother, Polyneices. Polyneices was a military leader of Thebes, along with his brother Eteocles, of which both were killed in a battle against each other.…

In Jean Anouilh’s interpretation of the Sophocles play, Antigone, individuals should follow moral law due to the severe corruptness of the state, and the need for the reinstitution of justice and equality. For example, when arguing with Antigone, Creon reveals the truth about Eteocles and Polynices, when he says “You think you know it but you don’t. No one in Thebes knows except me… But it was necessary to make a hero out of one of them, so I had men seek out their bodies… I gave orders for whichever corpse was less damaged to be scraped together for my national obsequies.…

“It is not always the same thing to be a good man and a good citizen.” This quote from Aristotle comes into play, when morals and ethics are jeopardized as soon as there are laws laid in which a person is forced to make an uncompromising decision. In the Greek tragedy, Antigone, a series of unfortunate events come about from a choice the main character, Antigone, makes to bury her traitor brother. Although she went against the rules of the time, she stressed the importance of sibling love, brought praise to the gods, and showed the ability to stand up for her own beliefs. This in of itself, puts her in a higher position over earthly authority and shows the importance of fate and destiny.…

Oedipus old king of Thebes whose children has fought on the ruling of Thebes. Some of them were honored by who read the story and some weren’t, according to my opinion I think that they were disgrace except for Antigone which is the heroine of the play “Antigone”. Moreover Antigone’s brothers were disgraced, for Ismene she refused going with Antigone to bury their brother and she was afraid and frightened from Creon - their uncle and king of Thebes- which shows her cowardness. Polyneices and Eteocles were disgraced because of their childish behavior and the ruthless fight they’ve went through which shows their stubbornness and braveness.…
