Was America A Land Of Opportunity Essay

When we hear the word “America” most of us probably think of opportunity, success and freedom. Was America a land of Opportunity? Is a question that is asked quite oftenly. In my opinion I think that America was a land of opportunity for many reasons. In my essay I am going to cover what made America the land of opportunity. One of the main reasons I thought that America was a land of opportunity was because America gave the immigrants different life options that their country didn’t offer them. My second reason why I thought America was a land of opportunity was America offered opportunities for immigrants and people that came to the united states to pursue their dreams. The last reason that I am going to talk about was that I thought America offered many different types of job and the Hulls House also had a big impact on America.

There were many different types of job choices in America. America kept creating new inventions which increased job openings. The reason why there were so many jobs was because in this time period industrialization was going on. Immigrants in the work force were very helpful to the united states. The lower class immigrants with lower education took the jobs that most Americans didn’t want. For example, in many low wage service jobs such as in restaurant kitchens or hotels, there was no displacement of native workers. So immigrants would fill up the spaces in these areas, and they have been keeping these industries running for many years. Immigrant got paid minimum wage and that made it easy for most factories to survive through tough times. Most immigrants worked in factories and had long shifts, many were overworked which resulted in America forcing labor
