Warwick Castles

To state how typical Warwick is in comparison to other castles in the history of castle development it’s really important what castles were, how they looked like etcetera. It’s obvious that because of new inventions, new ways of attacking and progress in technology castles also changed along all of these making them more safe place to live in for royal family or king himself and easier to defend.
The first type of castle brought to the England was Motte and Bailey castle which comes from Normand as their conquest who was William the conqueror from France. We can know this form the motte which is seen even today at the right of the main entrance in which at the top we can find a stone wall which have different story of existing and other stone walls totally outside which were the bailey, but they would been made out of wood. Also it’s placed next to river and has a big trench around which has been a moat. However we can read about it in extracts from A history of the County of Warwick made by W.B. Stephens in 1969 which makes that source quite relevant as he was historian which means that he spend time to get relevant information about the Warwick as a Motte and Bailey. The source itself says: “…Except on this side, where river and cliff provide natural defences, the walls surrounding the former bailey are protected by a dry moat.” which proves that this river was a natural defence and that this castle at this time had a moat which with other features made the Warwick castle typical in 11th as it included the key features which Motte and Bailey castle needed to have.
