Turning points in life can often be hard and tough, for you to live through. You can infer this by reading some of the selections I have read, such as Warriors Don’t Cry, I Never Had it made, and “The Father of Chinese Aviation”.The individuals in these excerpts are Melba Beals, Jackie Robinson, and Feng Ru. All three of these people have faced turning points in their own lives, but it didn’t affect just them. Beals changed all white schools in the U.S.A.. Robinson changed major league baseball. Feng Ru was the first Chinese person to aviate. By facing, turning points in their own lives, they changed not only themselves, but also their country.

Feng was challenged financially and racially. In the story, Feng was challenged with money when “ By 1906, Feng decided to return to California to establish an aircraft factory, building airplanes of his own design. San Francisco’s massive earthquake and resulting fire forced him to relocate to Oakland instead, where, funded by local Chinese businessmen, Feng erected his workshop—a 10- by eight-foot shack” (Maksel). Feng didn’t know the risks of fires and earthquakes would strike. Since he had already set up a factory on his own, his money went to waste after these natural disasters. He had to be funded by local Chinese men, and he could’ve gone bankrupt with no money to pay back the loans. Yet, facing this challenge, Feng didn’t weaken. He looked to the Wright Brothers for inspiration, and continued his work. Feng felt like he had to industrialize China by crafting and flying a plane, so he could be the first Chinese person to aviate. Feng Ru accomplished this for Chinese men and women. One of Feng Ru’s “announcers”, Sun Yat-Sen, states,””It is believed that he will be the first aviator to rise from the ground in China…. The machine he is taking to China is of his own construction”” (Maksel). Feng Ru left a great dent in Chinese history. He led the way for Chinese aviators. Melba Beals modified black people’s education by taking part in a integration of Central High, Little Rock, Arkansas. Melba Beals faced the dangers of deadly and angry segregationists, and angry, racist mobs. Beals states that “ We stepped up the front door of Central High School and crossed the threshold into that place where angry segregationist mobs had forbidden us to go.” This can clearly illustrate one of the dangers Beals faced. Unfortunately, Beals faced segregationists and angry mobs because of the times she was in. Just like Robinson, people expressed hate and anger toward black people, therefore, that being the reason of the segregationists and their mobs. Despite these challenges, Beals understood what good changes would come if the integration was successful. She goes on to explain that she “felt proud and sad at the same time. Proud that I lived in a country that would go this far to bring justice to a Little Rock girl like me, but sad that they had to go to such great lengths” (Beals). Melba shows us why she feels sad and proud. She wants to live in an equal world, which is why she takes part in the integration. Yet she is sad that they must go this far to make the world better.
