On October 6, 1998, Matthew Shepard, a student at the University of Wyoming, was beaten, tortured, tied to a fence, and left for dead by local teenagers all because of his sexuality. Shortly before Matthew’s death, James Byrd Jr., a 49-year-old African American man from Jasper, Texas, was found decapitated and dismembered on a road near his hometown. The perpetrators tied him up and dragged his body with their truck. The men who committed this terrible crime had connections with the Ku Klux Klan and held white supremacist ideologies. They then put her in the back of her minivan, drove her to a railroad bridge and pushed her into the river below, where her body was found the next day. Simmons and Benjamin later confessed to the abduction and murder, which had netted them $6.” Simmons was tried, found guilty, and received the death penalty.…

America's love and fascination with all things JFK in my opinion, support the notion that although Kennedy offered few solutions to the day’s pressing issues his charisma and charm were immortalized near to the point of Sainthood. Because the vast majority of Americans held warm feelings toward JFK and the magnitude of his loss, my tendency is to side with the Warren Commission's findings for the following reasons. First of all, I would speculate that as horrific as JFK killing was that those directing the Warren Commision sought to draw a factual conclusion to the investigation as quickly as possible in an attempt to bring a sense of closure and finality to the American…

However, income does not always determine our opportunities. While Wes Moore and his family did not have a high income, Joy tried her hardest to give Wes a good education and he later went to college after going through military school. Joy’s strong affluence on her son was the reason Wes was so successful, and went on to do great things. Moore’s lack of affluence, I believe, was a big reason he took the paths that he did. While his mother did not encourage the negative choices he made, she did not do much to steer him to the right path.…
