Another important idea that we learned in this course was that even though the judicial branch was not given the power of law making, but through the decisions made by the Supreme Court this can heavily affect the American political system through the changing of laws. For example, in the Brown v. Board of Education decision it was found the segregation of school was inherently unequal and unlawful. Through this court decision many Southern laws were stuck down and many schools were unsegregated. This shows the true important of the United States Judicial branch. This class was unique in that towards the end of the semester we had the pleasure of going out as a class to watch the film “Loving.” The film was based on the very important Supreme Court Case Loving v. Virginia. In this case a white man named Richard Loving had married an African American woman named Mildred Jeter. This was considered unlawful in regards to Virginia
