His father was a stockbroker and served as a United States Congressmen for four years. When he was only eleven Buffett stepped into the stock market. Along with the many jobs he had at the time, including one of a newspaper route, Buffett started investing his savings in the hope of making a profit. He invested small amounts to test the market. When he sold his stocks for a lower price to get his money back, in the next couple of days the price for that particular stock skyrocketed. “Buffett then knew that the key to being a great investor is to be patient”(Smith). Warren found the beauty of the stock market to be quite fascinating, he continued on this path for a while before he served as a United States Congressman. Buffett was rejected by Harvard, but was accepted into Columbia(Smith). He studied under Benjamin Graham who instilled values in him that would help him in the long run.
