Warrant Officer Qualities

As a Warrant Officer in the United States Army we serve a very unique purpose. When asked any Warrant Officer will quickly tell you they are “technical and tactical experts” in their particular field, be it aviation, transportation, maritime service or field specialization. ADRP 6-22 states that we serve our organizations by providing quality advice and solutions in equipment at the junior levels, moving to technical knowledge on higher echelon systems at the senior level. This does not mean, however, that the Army Warrant Officer does not act as a leader.

Leadership, the ability to inspire and motivate others by providing purpose to accomplish a task is not a task solely reserved by “Real Live Officers”. Leadership that is decentralized, responsibility delegated away from higher echelons, provides organizations the flexibility to extend operational reach and reduce inherent bureaucratic red tape. It is a vital resource command expects from each soldier, allowing mission focus to expand without additional positions. This is accomplished by the modern Army Warrant Officer.

While as a new Warrant Officer Junior Grade (WOJG) this may not mean we make policy or operational decisions, but does expect that we provide the command a proven and reliable soldier worthy of his trust and able to handle high levels of responsibility. This starts in aviation with maintaining the company snack fund. While it may not seem as an important task, it is vital as a foundational step in the trust that not only our command places in us, but of the junior enlisted and NCO’s as well, showing commitment and motivation that any job worth doing is worth doing right the first
