Living within poverty level can be a hard day-to-day struggle for anyone. I know this from my personal experiences growing up. Also in the book The Short And Tragic Life of Robert Peace, Jeff Hobbs, the author; describes how Rob and his mother went through life in poverty. Poverty is defined as, "the state or condition of having little or no money, goods, or means of support; condition of being poor" (Dictonary.com, 2017). I always think of living pay check to pay check and having the uncertainty of not knowing if you have enough money for everything.…
During World War II, France had given in an signed an armistice of peace. France was easily invaded because things were all over the place. France was not a united nation, they had a disorganized army, no formal government, and a wrong assumed attack plan. Ultimately, there was a feeling of French weakness but with a good reason. France wanted to save anything they could to preserve their culture and politics.…
it started out as a town originally called Pere Marquette, but was later named Ludington after the industrialist James Ludington ran his own logging operations. Ludington was incorporated a city in 1873. In 1875, Flint and Pere Marquette Railroad started cross lake shipping with side wheel steamer John Sherman, but was not large enough to handle the volume of freight. So in 1897 they built the Pere Marquette. Its first steel car ferry beginning a creation of ferries to continue the cargo across Lake Michigan to Manotowoc, Wisconsin.…
These is My Words Using a first-person narrative, the reader can sometimes detect that Sarah is interpreting other people’s actions and feelings incorrectly. If the book had been written in third-person, it would not have left the reader in anticipation and excitement for Sarah to discover what the others actually felt, as the reader would not only focus on one person. For example, readers could tell from the very beginning that Sarah had “stolen [Jack’s] very heart away” (Turner 285). However, because it was told from Sarah’s point of view, readers watched her slowly fall for him and discover his affection towards her. Sarah is a unique woman, especially for her time period.…

Herbert Hoover once said, “Older men declare war but it is the youth who must fight and die.” The older generations have societal control, and much of the legislation they draft and the statements they declare are made without the wellbeing of youth in mind. In A Separate Peace, this war is WWII. For the boys of Devon, it came during a time of vulnerability. They were still trying to fit into themselves when they started being told how they were to fit into a war.…

Rambunctious Garden Critical Book Review Emma Marris opens Rambunctious Garden by dedicating the book to her mother for sending her to Audubon Day Camp. Though her statement is unexplained, Marris seems to reference how she began to care about nature. In his A Sand County Almanac, Aldo Leopold wrote about how direct interactions with nature can lead one to care about the land, to develop a land ethic (Leopold 223-225). Audubon Camp was how Marris developed her land ethic.…
Fame is something that almost every human that has walked this earth has desired at some point in their life. While the thought of fame and all that comes with it is very desirable, if someone had the choice between private happiness and public fame which would they choose? In the stories of Lanval and the Wife of Bath, both of these men are forced to make this life altering decision. Fame, in the times of these tales, can be summed up by having a beautiful wife, wealth or marrying into a wealthy family, and being a noble knight to the King you honor. The men in these two stories make very similar decisions regarding their choices of public fame or private happiness, but the situations in which they are forced to make this decision differ immensely.…
Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the United States has taught me two things; one, we are not defined by stereotypes, and two, hardships are made to be overcome. Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Middlesboro, KY sits on the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia border. The multicolored fall foliage and the vivid green mountains in the spring are disserved by the descriptor spectacular. My roots are firmly nestled in the Cumberland Gap where Daniel Boone started his journey to the West decades ago. I am proud to call myself an Appalachian-American.…
I grew up in Coatesville, PA. It’s about 15 minutes away from Downingtown and I had so many great memories there. I remember one day my mom was at work and I was still trying to teach myself how to ride a bike.…

In the Elizabethan era, the commoners (referring to ordinary people who are members of neither the nobility nor the priesthood) would pay 1 penny to sit in the ‘pit’ of the theatre, 1 penny had been equivalent to approximately 1.66 US dollars today. Furthermore, the ‘pit’ of the theatre had been at the front of the stage, that meant the ‘commoners’ had the best view of the play, and could easily purchase food, but had a very hard time accessing a lavatory. The audience often complained of the nutshell filled floors with the smell of garlic and beer emanating through the audience. The Nobles - High-class Nobles would have the higher seats within the Lord's rooms paying 5d for the honour.…
