It really surprised me how we go to war over things as simple as land and resources, like Erica said. Matt talked about how there are simple wars, such as WWII. I don’t know if there ever is a “simple war” but I can see where he is coming from. There are also very complex wars, such as the war in Syria and WWI. Empires were also a huge part of this seminar. Kevin said that empires have evolved from a city state that has conquered another state. They have now been defined as a large group that has a great deal of influence over other people. We talked about how empires are often built on shaky ground, like Denna said, and how they do not stay in power for a very long time. I agree with this statement, empires normally increase in size until they become too powerful and come crashing down. There have been many powerful empires throughout the course of time such as the Persian Empire, The Roman Empire, and the Mongol Empire. Most of these empires have eventually fell apart or further
