I wasn't allowed to leave the house, and if I was, it was for a short amount of time, or I wouldn’t have gone alone. It was like I was always trapped, like I never had any freedom to make any decisions for myself or do anything that I wanted to do. Truthfully, I can admit, it was quite irritating, but I have no choice. I have to follow the rules that my guardian gives, since I don’t want to get into any trouble. They can’t go and hang out with their friends because they’re too busy fighting in a war. This shows a more shocking and sad mood because of how these kids are not only fighting in a war, but are giving up their childhood, their entire lives to become a soldier, and they aren’t doing any of this by choice. According to, “Armed & Underage” another way to support the claim that war is unbeneficial is when it states, “All across Somalia, smooth, hairless faces peek out from behind enormous guns. In blown-out buildings, children load bullets twice the size of their fingers. In neighborhoods by the sea, they run checkpoints and stop four-by-four trucks, though they can barely see over their hoods.” This supports the claim that war is unbeneficial because this quote is explaining all of these challenging and dangerous jobs that these kids are all doing, which is incredibly shocking. Plus, not only are they just out their doing all of these dangerous jobs, they’re out there risking their life. Basically, kids in certain countries can’t enjoy their childhood since they’re being forced to go off to war. According to, “Armed & Underage” another way to support the claim that war is unbeneficial is when it states, “While the number of conflicts involving child soldiers has dropped since 2004 from 27 to 15, human-rights experts estimate that more than 200,000 children worldwide are still being used as combatants, usually against their will. And it isn't just boys: Girls

This horrendous practice of exploiting children is caused by the need to economically benefit one’s country by appropriating the efficiency of being able to condition children from an early age. The effects include post traumatic disorder, mental health issues, medical issues, the list goes on, and much about this experience can be observed in the book, “A Long Way Gone,” by Ishmael Beah. These perceptions work to highlight and further problematize the prevailing ideologies regarding child soldiers. The Article Stolen kids turned into terrifying killers, By Ann O'Neill CNN, further depersonalises these child soldiers by telling us that there very vulnerability makes them attractive to the men leading militias, manipulating them to do the unspeakable without question or protest, because their morals and value systems are not yet fully formed. This verifies western beliefs and ideologies relating to guerrilla military leaders exploiting children and their rights to an innocent childhood for their own self-centred political agendas. In additional, some children are kidnapped from their schools or their beds, some are recruited after seeing their parents slaughtered, and some may even choose to join the militias as their best hope for survival in war-torn countries. Once recruited, many are brainwashed, trained, given drugs and then sent into battle with orders to kill.…
