On Wednesday 1st July 2015 I went to watch the play War Horse (directed by Marianne Elliot &Tom Morris) at the New London Theatre .War Horse, is a play that was performed in the and it is constructed from the novel that bears the same title by author Michael Morpurgo. The fictional story is about a foal that was brought into rural England in Devon to be auctioned. Wanting to acquire the foal for his son Billy Naracott, Arthur Naracott bids on the foal Ted buys him for 39 guineas in return for the foal, an excessive amount for a poor farmer - he wants others to see him as an individual who can indulge on the finer things in life instead of the dipsomaniac he is. Fear falls upon Ted’s wife as the money that bought the foal was to be used to pay …show more content…
Their son Albert names the foal Joey whilst promising to train Joey- this is where a phenomenal friendship begins.

The main characters were; Albert ; Joey; captain Nicholls; Rose Naracott; Ted Naracott; Topthorn; Private Friedrich Henglemann . The actor who played Albert did very well in portraying the young, energetic obliviousness of child in at the beginning of the play. He did this with energetic sudden movements always speaking with a tone of naturalness. This juxtaposed the characterisation of Albert when he became a soldier. His exterior became distant and his moves were calculating, as an audience we got the message about how the evil of war wipes away all innocence and purity. Albert’s mother is sensible woman who loves her son but is also worried about money and their farm. The actress who played Rose used a soothing tone when directing her speech towards Albert, she had a relaxed posture. This showed that the character was a good mother. Also, always had worried or frustrated facial expressions when dealing with Albert’s father to show how their marriage is broken and because he is a

The actors used space stylistically in my opinion because although implicit the relationships were shown through space. Fredric was standing tall but later uses levels to show us how defeated the character has become by life after the death of Topthorn whom was very close to him. This was shown in the monologue where he debated suicide. The characters who do not have strong relationships were distant towards one another on stage and the characters whom had strong relationships were closer together. The opposing soldiers had distance between them. Albert and his mother were always close together showing a healthy relationship whereas Albert and his father always possessed a distance between them and if there wasn’t it was a result of conflict. When Albert’s dad slapped him he was close but then Albert created an even larger distant between them and there was a pause and the use of space alongside the pause created explicit tension. Albert’s mother and Albert’s father did not have a healthy relationship as husband and wife and this was shown through the space as there were not as intimately spaced together as a married couple would be. Worrying about money and the farm and the fact that he is a drunkard is the reason why their marriage is not strong any more. There was a distance between them like they were strangers. I believe that the directors were very careful in trying to depict every relationship between the

In the play “The C Above C Above High C” by Ishmael Reeds, the writer focuses to analyze the effects and use of unrealistic elements which categorically affect the play. By use unrealistic elements the author is indeed able to open up the dominion of possibilities and has unlimited options in front of them. This play really imparts itself to the use of these unrealistic elements since in most part of the play is about people speaking and conversing about topics or events that others do not see or do not happen at that same time. A good example of this is when Mamie Eisenhower is in a highlight watching Dwight and his mistress Kay Summersby in the hotel room where they just had a fling.…

In Translations, by Brian Friel, language is used as a mechanism to feature the many issues of communication within the characters’ small Irish village. Throughout the play, Friel attempts to advocate for the Irish language because he believes that language represents one’s identity and historical background. Unfortunately, the town, and specifically the local school, have been appropriated by British officers, whose main goal is to transition the school into an entirely English-spoken school, as opposed to allowing the residents’ native Irish language. To begin, a few characters presume to be the main people this act focuses on; Maire, Doalty, Bridget, and two English soldiers. These characters have various views on…

Every good play has several themes that add depth and meaning to it. The playwright Michael Healey exemplified the use of many themes in his play, “The Drawer Boy.” The play has many dimensions, each adding a significant and entertaining purpose, which make the script very interesting and exciting to read. Of the many demonstrated, the universal theme of struggle is clearly evident through the play and The Drawer Boy would not be the same without this important element. The theme of struggle and hardship is displayed through the general occupation of farmers, and also through the specific characters Morgan and Angus.…
