War Horse by Michael Morpurgo is a 160 page, historical fiction novel. The book is about a farm horse who is taken to become another part of the British cavalry. The novel is set in England during World War I (1914), when the British Army was in need of more supplies. The horse, named Joey, is closely tied with his owner Albert. When Joey is sold to the army they are both very upset. The author uses the characters thoughts and actions to help the reader understand the change that occurs within the story.
