War Changed Anne Frank Essay

How The War Changed Anne Anne Frank was an average teenage girl, with a twist. Although she was going through the same emotional and physical changes any 13 year old would, Anne was living in what could be described as the most gruesome, and life-taking genocide in history- The Holocaust. The Frank family had lived a happy life as Jews. Anne and her sister, Margot going to school everyday, and their parents, Otto and Edith tending to work around the house and Otto working at his business. However, on July 5, 1942 Margot received a call-up notice to go to a forced-labor camp, and the Frank family’s lives were changed forever. The next day, the family goes to hiding in a secret annex in Otto’s office building. Another Jewish family at risk of deportation, the van Daans move in with them. They end up living in the tight, unsanitary downright horrible conditions for almost three years. Within this time, Anne goes through many defining changes, which can be seen in her diary, The Diary of a Young Girl: Anne Frank. Throughout the course of the war, Anne develops greatly, and makes many defining decisions about what she thinks of people, with new signs of this maturity seen year after year. She begins as an outgoing, beloved 13 year old, but leaves the annex as a matured, well-rounded 15 year old. Throughout this time she has has many arguments with the annex members, and questioned many relationships, nonetheless, those quarrels all lead to benefit towards the end. Anne leaves the annex as a self-aware young woman, in search of freedom. Although she does not ever get this freedom, Anne does fulfill her dream of being an inspiration to all through her writing. The maturity Anne possesses by the end of the war, is what inspired and shaped the lives of people around her and continues to inspire
