War Against Germany: Is It A Threat To America?

Decent Essays
As a member of Congress, I vote in favor or entering the war against Germany. This is not something I take lightly and would prefer peace. We’ve sat back and remained neutral up until this point and I feel we no longer can do so. The German military is a threat not only to Europe, but to the entire world. We did not retaliate to submarine warfare that killed 124 American’s on the Lusitania. Now, we learn that Germany is reaching inviting Mexico to join forces with them and wage war against American. This is a direct threat to America and translates to a call for action. We have fought for the democracy and freedoms we have today. We must now fight to protect that freedom as well as the freedom of our foreign allies. If we do not engage

In April 1917, the United States had the right to enter World War 1 on the side of England, France, and Russia. The reason why the United States had the right to enter is because Germany had already declared war on us and the people of the United States, the Zimmerman Note that Britain intercepted and gave to Wilson which stated an alliance with Mexico, and if we didn’t go to war, England, France, and Russia would have lost the war which would be bad for us if we stayed neutral. Germany used unauthorized submarine warfare. Submarine warfare is when Germany's navy attacks all merchant ships, including those from neutral countries. In May 1915, “a German submarine torpedoed and sank the Lusitania, a British passenger ship.…

At the beginning of the 20th century, many factors inspired the United States to declare war on Germany and join arms with the Allied Powers. The two elements that seemed crucial were America’s financial interests with England and President Woodrow Wilson’s choice to have peace talks in Europe. However, because of the time this took place and the situation that America was in, the decision to go take arms would be a hard one to make. During the commencement of the war, it became clear that the right choice for Wilson was to keep the United States a neutral nation.…

In addition to this, the Zimmerman Telegram from Germany to Mexico was intercepted by Britain and released to the public. Both unrestricted submarine warfare and the Zimmerman Telegram finally led the U.S. to declare war: Germany refused to comply with nations’ rights under neutrality and also attempted to instigate a war that threatened the national security of…

During the early years of the war, Germany notoriously attacked passenger vessels without warning. In those vessels were US citizens that had no involvement in the war. The US subsequently responded with “all diplomatic relations between the United States and the German Empire [being] severed and that the American Ambassador to Berlin will immediately be withdrawn” (D). Many governments, including America, were taken aback when “the German Government did not declare and effect an abandonment of the methods of submarine warfare which it was then employing and to which it now purposes again to resort” (D). The United states government had to “hold the Imperial German government to a strict accountability for any infringement of those rights, intentional or incidental” (B).…

In Professor Suri's lecture on the Great War and progressives, we discussed the failure of American neutrality, German submarine warfare, and the U.S. declaration of war. In the period of World War I, America was committed to being a country with "neutral" trade relations in Europe. Despite the unrest in Europe, America was dedicated to being neutral in this sense, but they failed to after Britain decided that the U.S. couldn't trade with its enemy. As a result of this sentiment, Britain blockaded U.S. trade to Germany in 1914. With German submarine warfare, Germany decided that it needed to somehow stop American ships from going into Britain, so they decided to sink U.S. and British ships - if they could not obtain goods, nobody could.…

Veterans play an important role in society today and the history of not only America as a whole, but the people who live in it. They have earned us our freedom and our rights, and even continue to help even after leaving the battlefield, whether by actively playing a role in their community or going on living the lives they earned for America. Having no veterans would signify no victorious battles or even fights to begin with. The veterans that America celebrates show that America stood and still stands for values and independence. They play a key role in history- who ever read a textbook that didn’t mention ferocious warriors or soldiers conquering forgotten cities?- and create our future at the same time.…

I chosen the speech of Harold Ickes, What is an American? which he delivered at the I am an American Day gathering in New York’s Central Park. The purpose was to address a growing question of many American people if it was necessary to join the war against Adolf Hitler. He claims that as American we must fight in the war for freedom and the idealism of democracy. Once Hitler claims the world, America will not be able to stand forever against the endless resources at his control. Stand together with our allies or be caught standing alone and left to be enslaved.…
