For example, in Time’s article “Why Victims of Rape in College Don’t Report to the Police” Gray interviews a victim who states, “When I reported violence to my school, I was told not to go to the police. But I never would have told [the school] if I knew I was going to be forced into that option”(Gray 1). This demonstrates how not only are crimes being committed against these people, but also how they are encouraged by authorities not to seek justice. In addition to forcing the victim to live in fear of becoming a victim once again, this sentiment also allows a criminal to walk free with no punishment or justice.
