Wangaratta Police Case Study

At approximately 16:30 Staff member (Glenn) pulled the work car up at a rest stop between Springhurst and Wangaratta for a toilet stop.

Staff member (Glenn), and Benjamin Marshall got out of the car and used the toilet.
On return back to the car, Ben barged Staff member (Writer) out of the way; whom was outside of the car at the time speaking with Daniel Marshall, then sat in the drivers seat.

Ben was asked several times to please hop out of the drivers seat by both staff, Ben refused and proceeded to play with the cars handbrake, gear lever and steering wheel. For the safety of the other co-residents whom were in the car at the time, Ben was gently ushered out of the drivers seat, at which point Ben ran away from the car yelling profanities at staff.

Staff member (Glenn) attempted to calm Ben down and asked Ben if he could please return to the car, however Ben remained elevated and refused to return to the car. Ben then stated he was going

Meanwhile staff member (Writer) got back into the car with the other co-residents. Ben then picked up a large rock and stick and threatened to throw it at the car.

(Writer) called Merriwa On-call and Wangaratta Police.

Coresident Mark Marshall then hopped out of the car and chatted with Ben, Ben dropped the rock and stick that he was bearing prior to this and sat down on a grass bank away from the freeway. Staff continued to encourage Ben to return to the car; but Ben again refused, however staff managed to redirect Ben back to the main part of the rest stop where it was less hazardous.

Wangaratta Police attended the rest stop at approximately 18:30 and spoke with Ben. Ben settled within ten minutes of speaking to the Police, Ben then soon hopped back in the car and returned to the unit. There were no further issues.
