The work of art titled “The Tilled Field” by Joan Miró is an excellent example of a work that is part of the Surrealist movement. An oil painting on canvas completed in 1924, the work is possibly the most important and well-known work by the Spanish born artist. After being his career painting working on mare traditional still-lifes and landscapes he later transitioned into more contemporary styles of art. Never openly affiliated with a specific school of art, he produced pieces that aligned with a few different genres including Fauvism, Cubism, and Surrealism. I took special care in ensuring that my attached pictures would lie flat by placing a piece of plastic on top of the project after each new picture I attached and pressing down firmly to flatten it. My artwork focuses on a central theme of travelling and beautiful destinations. When looking to purchase a magazine from which to create my art I was instantly drawn to the travel magazines and their pages full of places that were unbelievably beautiful. I felt that this was the perfect way for me to start a project in which I was trying to create something beautiful. I tried to include a few different aspects of travel not just the places you would go but the things you can see, the activities you can see, and the people that you might meet. In my piece of surreal fantasy art I tried to create one scene that complied many of the amazing experiences I want to eventually gain from travelling. It feels especially relevant to me now as many of my friends are preparing to study abroad while I am unable to due to financial reasons, I attempted to create many pieces of what I had wanted from the study abroad experience I wanted into this
