Actually, my main question before starting the application processes and reading the purpose of the program was: why should I be part of the Walton International Scholarship Program? I know some people my age that are smarter than me, amazing artists, excellent English speakers, and talented athletes. There are candidates with stronger economic necessity and bigger goals. Then I questioned myself: what makes me a worthy candidate? Could it be a plan of God? These questions were in my head while I was writing my essay. One of the purpose of the program is to create lenders to develop their countries. Well, I had one point on my favor; one of my life goals is to make a scientific contribution to my nation in the area of Analytic Chemistry, because one of my mains worries is the global warming. Also, I had a strong economic necessity, given the hard commitment of my parents with education. Financial maintaining of three college students was especially hard for my father. and I was very busy and sick before my first interview. Then, before entering the interview´s room, I heard people say how they had gone to excellent schools, studied English for 17 years and had had amazing feats. So I felt I was worthless. But my mother always told me to do my best because the rest is in the hands of God. I still cannot believe that I passed that phase. Winning the scholarship this year never crossed my mind; my original plan was to study how the program worked, and next year be prepared to win; but fortunately God’s plan was more exciting than mine. Now I am here, trying to develop my skills and be an active part of my new home for the next four
