Walter Wryson Monologue

Improved Essays
a boy that lived down the street from me in Gaffney. About my age. His name was Walter Wryson. He used to run away from home all the time and come to our house. Not for any good reason. His daddy didn't beat him. He had clothes on his back. The Wrysons had way more money than we did, but run away he would, at least once a month and come straight to our place. Now, usually, my mother would call his mother and she'd come and fetch him. But about the ninth or tenth time this happened, Walter ran outside, climbed up into a tree in our backyard, and wouldn't come down for nothin'. Now, my mama said to his mama, "Why don't you let us keep him for a while, until he feels like coming home?" But man, oh, man, that boy was stubborn.

Another person he describes to have entered his life was his uncle Lee who had gotten out of jail. Walter describes as a man who looked a lot like his adoptive father and always talked out of the side of his mouth. When Walter asked why he did this, he said it was so the police couldn't see you talking in jail. Walter says that he begins to talk out of the side of his mouth as well, which foreshadows that he might end up in jail at some point in the book.…

What this quote shows is how Walter has all these unfulfilled future dreams which he describes as this “looming blank space full of nothing.” Walter has this dream to own a liquor store with some of his friends he has mentioned wanting to use the check that his mother receives to buy part of the store. Because of this check he’s claiming that him living like this and having the same job doesn’t have to be like this anymore now that they have the money to make his dream of his happen. Walter speaks this line because they are talking about what to do with the money since everyone basically has their own idea of how they can spend the check and they have spent time arguing over it.…

This song strongly reminds me of Zach becasue he was always the master at pranks and finding ways to embarrass (bully) other students. The tone of the melody fits perfectly with Zach's personality becasue he is always thinking of a way to bully or pick on someone. According to pg. 14, the text states, "I did a quick scan to confirm there were no teachers looking on.... I reached up and snached a letter off.…

While wallowing in his frustration over failing to escape poverty, Walter reveals his resentment that he works hard at his job and still cannot provide his son with a bed or his own room. He later confesses how upsetting it is to him that he cannot get ahead and that he is always “tooken” (Hansberry 141). In a fit of rage after he squandered away the family’s money, Walter declares that he has learned a valuable lesson from the conman who stole his money: the world is divided into two types of people the “takers” and the “tooken,” and it does not matter how you get the money as long as you are the one who ends up with it (Hansberry 141). Like Hughes says, all Walter can see is “the same old stupid plan.”…

I must confess, if the importance of this document did not extend further than a personal confession to the worst of my sins, I would not be wasting my time. However, I have come to realize, that without a written record of my actions, there will be no safeguard against these disgusting acts in the future. I do not write in this document for my own therapeutic benefit: I realize that the acts I have orchestrated can never be forgiven. I suppose my true transformation began thirty years ago; at this time, I was a young man living in the London Corridor: careless, deprived, and unusually free. At this time, the blistering remnants of public education were being beset by the party’s influence, but despite cultural turmoil, I graduated in the…
