Europe had many good explorers such as Christopher Columbus as i think you all have heard. But another one in particular is a man named Walter Raleigh. You may not have heard of this particular explorer so let's learn a little more about him shall we. Walter Raleigh was born in England around 1552 and grew up in a farmhouse near east of Burleigh Devon England. He lived in england most of all his life maybe different cities but he still lived in england. Walter also was the youngest of 5 siblings he only had brothers he grew up with. Walter was born to Catherine Champernowne in two successive marriages to father Walter Raleigh. His mother and father named him after his dad Walter Raleigh as well. Walter was a writer/adventurer and soldier, but later accused of treason by KIng James the 1st, he was imprisoned and sentenced to death later died because of it in 1618. Walter had 3 sons, the first one he had did not survive the second one was born in 1593 named Walter as well the third one was born around 1604 and 1605 and was named Carew. But Queen Elizabeth The 1st did sponsor him to go and travel to the undiscovered land and bring back riches. Walter sent some voyages to the undiscovered land these two are some of them that he sponsored an expedition in 1585 threw 1588. Also another one he sponsored in 1590. In 1596 he led an expedition to what is now called Venezuela, in South America. Some stories by the Indians told him that there was a city of gold, he located some gold mines but never found the supposedly city of
