On july 25 a baby boy was born, walter jerry payton son of alyne payton and peter payton. Walter was a second child his older brother eddie payton had a baby brother. He was raised in a segregated culture. Walter had a nickname, his parents called him sweetness. He was born in columbia, mississippi. Walter payton was a straight a student. In high school walter played drums for his schools marching band.

Walter payton went to columbia high school where he played track and field also where he started his football career. Payton played starting full back. His first ball carry in football was for an outstanding 65 yards. Payton averaged a touchdown in every game that he played. After high school years payton was accepted to go to jackson state
