The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is a comedic drama about a Negative Assets Manager at Life Magazine, Walter Mitty (Ben Stiller), a nice underdog who has taken one too many hits from the world and resorts to maladaptive daydreaming as a coping mechanism. When the negative for the final cover of Life goes missing under Walter's supervision, he must venture across the world and learn to stand on his own two feet in order to recover the missing negative and win the affection of coworker Cheryl Melhoff (Kristen Wiig). The cinematography, while pleasing to the eye, comes off as pretentious. Stiller's attempt to be taken seriously as an actor and director is manifested in artsy, shaky camera shots meant to disguise the otherwise banal plot
