Introduction
First and foremost I would like to thank Walters Elementary for allowing me the opportunity to discuss and analyze discipline data. As a current candidate for the Principal position, I appreciate the chance to delve deeper into systems that are already in place and potentially aid in the development and implementation of plans to come. I hope that my analysis will help in shedding some light on, and possibly providing some guidance in regards to, disciplinary issues that have been trending over the course of the last three years. If selected for the position, I expect us as a team to find some common ground on which we can build future Positive Behavioral Support Systems for the students of Walter Elementary.
Upon initial review, Walters Elementary student demographic is primarily African American. Black males and females comprise approximately 46% of the student population. White students make up 30% and Hispanics 24%. Insubordination comprised the highest number of referrals and in response to those referrals the most common disciplinary action taken was out-of-school suspension.
I have also investigated the top five disciplinary issues in other schools. I will be presenting my findings and their top responses with the intention of comparing and contrasting them to the current disciplinary issues at Walter. This

    The progression of disciplinary actions over the three years at Walters School indicate three major trends, or patterns, in the data given. The most noticeable trend was the increasing percentage rate of disciplinary actions on office referrals for black males in the categories of corporal punishment, in-school suspension, other and out-of-school suspension. Corporal punishment of black males doubled in percentage of action from 41.57% in 2204 to 81.82% in 2006. In-school suspension for black males maintained the highest rate for all ethnicities with a rate of 53.66% in 2004, 45.83% in 2005 and 56.86% in 2006.     With no malicious intent, the notion has been proposed that the disproportionate rates of African American male students subjected to exclusionary discipline practices can be attributed to the general belief that children of poor socioeconomic backgrounds, primarily African American children, exhibit elevated levels of violence and disruptive behavior (Skinner, 2013).
