Walter Elias Disney: A True American Hero

Walter Elias Disney can be considered a great American hero. He was not only considered one of the best in the entertainment industry, but also an inspiration to many. Walt Disney took steps, chances, and risks to get to where he was in life. He was naturally gifted with artistic ability and creativity, and this helped him get into animation. Eventually Disney created the first animated cartoons with sound and full length animated movies. He also made some of the worlds first theme parks, which have grown in popularity because of how exciting they were. Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Hermosa, Illinois. Walter lived most of his life in Marceline, Missouri with his four siblings and parents. He had three brothers and a sister, and his parents were Elias and Flora Call Disney. Disney was always an artistic child, and he would draw and paint pictures that he would sell to his friends and neighbors. Disney had an interesting school life. He went to McKinley High School in Chicago where he took art and photography classes and made cartoons for the school newspaper. At night he also took classes at the Chicago Art Institute. But at age 16 he dropped out of high school to join the army. But Disney was underage and rejected so he joined the Red Cross and drove ambulances in France instead. Disney’s main reason for making his first movie is because it was an escape from reality during the depression. His movies helped people forget about what was happening for a few hours and have fun in this time of sadness. Disney created history by making his movies and theme parks. His parks are some of the most popular parks in the world. Disney lived a great life, but sadly died on December 15, 1966 due to lung cancer. He was 65 years old when he died. He may not be here today but people will go on to remember Walter Elias Disney
