What interests me the most about Walter Cunningham is that not only he was a very successful astronaut, but he also worked for the navy for a very long time as a pilot. According to www.jsc.nasa.gov, he started joined the navy in 1951 and began flying in 1952. He flew over 54 missions as a pilot in Korea. From 1956 through 1975 he was a reserve pilot for the navy. After he finished in the navy, he became a scientist for three years before he worked for NASA. In total, he has gotten 4500 hours of flying time. This includes his 263 hours in space.
