Walter Camp's Influence On The Evolution Of Football

Have you ever wondered how the sport football began? In 1869 the sport rugby was popular in colleges around the world. People would play the sport rugby and they played it a lot. But in the sport of rugby the people would get hurt because they played with no pads on the players. In 1880, a rugby player from Yale University, named Walter Camp changed the rules of rugby and transformed it into American football. Walter camp is known as “the father of football”, he was apart of the group called Intercollegiate Football Association (IFA) who was the people that made the rules of the sport football. Walter Camp was also the captain of the Yale University football team and apart of the first football game ever played.

The IFA and Walter Camp introduced the requirement that a team give up the ball after failing to move down the field a certain yardage in a certain number of “downs.” One of the changes Camp made was that they

In 1920, the American Professional Football Association was formed. Two years later they changed the name to National Football League also know as the NFL. There are 32 teams in the NFL with 53 players each. That makes 1,696 NFL players total. Players get drafted and picked by one of the NFL teams.

They sign contracts about how much money they will make during to football season. National Football League players get paid every week during the regular season. The average NFL salary is $3,840,017, according to Sports Illustrated. The most paid salary was NFL player Drew Brees of New Orleans Saints paid $31,250,000.

In conclusion, football is a popular and amazing sport that was ever created. Football has become a tradition for me and my family to watch, Sunday football, football games, and Super bowl.
