This caused the feminist movement to stay in the minds of women in the United States despite World War Two going on around them. Even though they were focused on the war they had a cause worth fighting for after it was over. However, in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” the powerful villain happens to be a woman. This reflects negatively because it shows that the only way to have true power is to be manipulative and be hateful towards most of those around her. Which is stated in Bill Lins’ article titled “Feminist movement in the U.S. and changes in Disney characters.” This shows the double standard that women receive every day. Men were able to fight in World War Two freely and accepted with ease, however, if a women wanted to fight for their country they had to be a nurse up until 1942. That is when the Women’s Army Corps was created. Walt Disney used well known cartoon characters such as Mickey Mouse, Bambi, but most importantly Donald Duck. The use of these characters helped create an interest in the war. However, it gave a slightly unrealistic view of the war, in one animated short with Donald Duck is part of the Nazis which was changed to Nutzis and he eventually goes insane. However, Donald wakes up and expresses how happy he is to be part of the United States. This made it seem like all the bad things that were happening in World War Two were nothing but a bad dream. Even though the children and adults were having to deal with the sadness and devastation that the war brought first hand, it was still at a distance which makes it harder for some to understand what is exactly happening. People often believe what is easier to understand even if that is a little cartoon video. These films also gave the war a slight comical touch to it.
