World War One was starting to begin while Walt was entering his mid-life (“Facts about…” 1). He wanted to be a part of the war, but the military rejected him because he was far too much underage (“Facts about…” 1). So he was looking for anyway to be in on the action of the war (“Facts about…” 1). When Walt found out that the American Red Cross needed ambulance drivers, he took that as the best opportunity to go help in the war for his country (“Facts about…” 1). So for a year, Walt went out overseas to Paris, France and drove an American Red Cross ambulance around to help all the injured people in the war (“Facts about…” 1). When Walt was taken out of the war, he decided to take an enormous risk in his life and move out to California (“Facts about…” 1). While he was in California Walt created four different animation studios, but sadly only one of those four studios ended up being successful (Susanin 1). Most of the people in Hollywood told Walt that he was to young, and inexperienced to be a director or even to be an animator when he first moved out there (Cole 20). Because over seventy-five percent of all of Walt’s business’ were failing right before his eyes, Walt began to dangerously run low on his money supply (Cole 23). His very first accomplishment was his “Steamboat Willie” cartoon, which became a success in 1928 (“The Walt Disney Co.” 1). Although Steamboat Willie was not Mickey Mouse's first appearance (Susanin 1). But all of his success quickly turned in May of 1941, when seventeen artist were, escorted out of the Disney studio in California (Johnson 1). The very next day, three hundred workers went on strike at the Disney Company (Johnson 1). The record keepers conveniently erased this whole event from the record books during this time (Johnson 1). Then Disney’s turn of events changed back to success, when he opened Disneyland in July of 1955 (“The Walt Disney Co.” 1). It was the most visited place in the world by the first month it was open (“The Walt Disney Co.” 1). Disney may have died young, but his legacy of cartoons and movies lives on
