This marked for a turning point in time simply because no one else was creating movies and cartoons such as Walt Disney. He has affected me directly in the aspect in which he as has created the ideas for many of my childhood cartoons and movies, as well as showing me the possibilities that can come from working hard and following your dreams.
Primarily, Walt Disney was very influential in the idea that he was always very creative and imaginative. His whole life he was always drawing and painting, and then later he was working in film animation and building theme parks. According to the editors at Biography.com, “He lived most of his childhood in Marceline, Missouri, where he began drawing, painting and selling pictures to neighbors and family friends” (Biography.com). This shows how ambitious he was, that he would fake his age in order to start a business. Neal Gabler, author of multiple Walt Disney documentaries on PBS, reveals that, “Before he was even old enough to legally sign the incorporation papers, Disney wrangled a few friends together, raised some cash and started Laugh-o-Gram, a studio in Kansas City, MO” (Gabler). This purely shows how eager Disney was to start sharing his ideas with the public. Not only was he interesting in starting a franchise, he genuinely enjoyed his art. Gabler specifically mentions the studio's failure as well, “But he seemed less interested in making money than in having fun, and the company promptly went bankrupt, sending Disney, by then 21, to Los Angeles to look for work in the film industry” (Gabler). Yet this was technically a business failure, he thoroughly enjoyed his time working with his friends, and this started his track to much bigger projects. At this point, Walt Disney was starting a business with his older brother and creating some of the ideas for later projects. Once again, one of his first major ideas was actually stolen from him. This hardship shaped him to keep a closer eye on his projects, shaping his artwork once again.
