Walnut Ridge: A Short Story

Decent Essays
Kerensa,

The semester has slipped by disturbingly fast. Hopefully it's not just because I'm getting older -- the school year lasted forever when I was little.

The weather has been weird: mildest winter on record with the largest snow storm of the year coming in late march. And yes, it did snow last week.

I've been laid low for the past two weeks with a horrific case of strep (I havn't been able to speak for days), and I went outside for the first time in a few days and found that the trees had all begun to leaf out. It's amazing how easy it is to miss spring if you aren't paying attention. I may also have mono (from my roommate, not your sleeping pad).

I'm working at a farm called Walnut Ridge. It's a vegetable farm that sells at several farmers' markets. It's on 2.5 miles south of Liam's on the same road.

Nice.

I'm sorry to hear Rennie is still having a rough time. From what I've gathered, you being away has been particularly hard for him, so I'm glad you'll have time for him this summer. I'd like to meet him, if he'd be up for it.

When are you getting back? My finals are over on the 9th, but I have to be at school on the 15th for a choir thing. I'd like to meet up before the summer slips by too. Perhaps sometime in May?

Hope to see you soon,

On 02/04/2016, at 1551 hours I Deputy R. Dean Hildebrand responded to 51 Wood Creek Road on a civil standby. I was advised I was to meet the complainant Greg Hughes at the intersection of Boulder Frontage Road and Amazon Road. Upon arrival I spoke to Greg Hughes and Craig French. French stated he had been asked by the owner (Steve Franks) to go to the house that had been vacated by the previous renters Tinisha and Joseph Paschal. He was to check the residence and make a quote to remodel the house and change the locks on the house.…

Plumbing Fort Worth If you are wondering about the possible conditions of winter this year, The Weather Channel’s climate models are indicating a below average temperature pattern for all of TX. After last winter, this is not welcome news considering six of seven days from Feb. 22-28 experienced at least a trace of freezing rain, freezing drizzle, snow, or sleet. Impacted by a winter storm, and experiencing 40 days at or below freezing caused its share of problems, including issues with homeowner’s plumbing in Fort Worth.…

When I was young, my family and I lived in a charming town outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania called Willistown. I was lucky enough to call this my hometown, and the town I was born in. On November 7, 1997 my wonderful family welcomed me into the world. Willistown was filled with horse farms, large green pastures and colonial type homes. After years of looking out of the car window and seeing hundreds of horses a day, I found my passion.…

Fall is associated with leaves, pumpkin spice lattes, and big sweaters on instagram, in real life though it's not as pretty. Fall in Mandan brings nine week tests and cold weather,a very different perspective than what is perceived on the internet. The reality of what fall is really like can be harsh and not as plasing to look at or live in. Fall is the awkward inbetween time before the harsh winter takes over the year. The leaves change and the air is filled with the smell of sweetgrass and juicy apples.…

Hi All, I don't know about you, but I'm feeling like we're at the point in the semester where it might seem to be dragging on a bit. I'm thinking floor ice skating this Friday night would be really fun! The ice rink on campus is open on Friday for only UConn students from 8:00-9:00pm. I was thinking we could head over to the ice rink together, hang out for a bit, and then head back with enough time for you to still have the majority of the night ahead of you!…

It was only one year ago on this day that I had suffered my most recent and hopefully final concussion. Our football team was playing the number three-ranked team in state for our seventh and extremely important game of the season. As anyone who lives in Chicago knows, October can be a mild month for fall or an extremely cold month, which my princess girlfriend absolutely hates. Unfortunately last year was one of the coldest Octobers we have ever had, breaking the record, which was previously held in 1982. Kickoff was minutes away…

Everyone always said ten weeks were going to be quick and be over before we noticed, and it's true. Compared to my friends in states school who started before us and ending after us as well. This quarter was confusing from getting lost in the humanities building multiple times to having to wait in the financial aid several times. I met up with Vinay probably a week after our first visit, yet I did accomplish the goals we set. One of the them being signing up for the Mathematics placement exam.…
