The wise Confucius once said that all great things come with a price. This notion is proved to be correct through the well known company named Walmart. The original vision for the company was to create a place in which people could accomplish all of their shopping needs at one place at one time. This would eliminate time of driving from store to store to meet one’s various needs. Not only could one accomplish this at Walmart, they could also do it in the most financially responsible way since Wal-Mart prides themselves in having the lowest prices around. Both of these components sound enticing, but they have their repercussions. The company may be prospering, but many people are being hurt in the process. Within the company Walmart this concept takes a one hundred and eighty degree turn. In an interview in the video it is said that if two employees are caught associating with one another while on the clock they will be dismissed immediately. Symbolic interaction is a key component in society, that Walmart strips from their employees. When two employee interact with one another, it is perceived to be some kind of conspiracy against the company. This goes back to the fact that Wal-Mart employees are not allowed to establish unions. Symbolic interactions in group settings are a vital part of society yet Walmart pours enormous an amount of money into keeping unions out of the company. Walmart puts a large amount of it’s resources into anti-union equipment when they should be putting it into more important things, like the salaries of their employees. However, sometimes situations come to be that are out of family member’s control. When Wal Mart 's enter towns other businesses are forced to close, putting many out of work. In a small town in the video it is stated that families were evicted from their homes from losing their jobs and had to live with all of their belongings inside their cars. This is a prime example of conflict theory. Jobs become scarce because now most all of the available jobs are in the company Walmart, where they are notorious for short staffing. This gives one company control over many people because, they are in control of the scarcity of jobs. The small companies can petition to keep Walmart out of their towns, but they cannot control Walmart building outside of the town jurisdictions and still drawing business from the town. A family member who once provided for others now has no way to support their family, all due to Walmart’s dominance over everyone else through conflict
