Walmart Glitch Summary

Decent Essays
There was a reported incident in 2013 where there was a glitch in the system that allowed all EBT card holders to have unlimited spending limits in their cards. There was complete chaos in local Walmart's as people cleared the shelves and scrambled for any little thing they saw like savages that had not eaten in days. Some people walked out with 8-10 carts full of groceries. Although it was only a glitch for a few hours the damage was done. As soon as the system was back up the people still in line left the shopping carts there and left. Clearly there was no need for all the things they were about to purchase. It cannot be denied that these recipients saw it as a way to get free stuff and took complete advantage of it even though they knew

Hi Professor, Certainly, no data mining, business intelligence, or predictive analysis can be successfully accomplished without relevant data that assure the program integrity: • The USDA needs relevant sources to determine actual income from applicants in order to determined true eligibility. The unemployment office, the banking sector, and the credit score agencies could provide some of this information. • The USDA needs to track down the purchases from the SNAP participants (EBT card) in order to detect abusers from buying more items that the ones needed (baby formula). The USDA could stablish data transfers from participating stores to collect such information. • In my last company unemployment hearing, an ex-employee declared leaving the…

The four retailers that I used for my comparison are Target, Dillons, Hyvee, and Walmart. The items I chose to compare at these retailers are 2% milk, Eggs, Turkey, Hot dog buns, Ketchup, Mayo and Brownie mix. I found it interesting to see the different variety from store to store as well as the price differences. The first retailer I went to was Target. Target would be considered a supercenter because they provide some grocery items as well as clothes, home décor, and toys.…

The shopping crowd of this Walmart is different than other Walmarts. They are noticeably older. I am sure it is because all the snowbirds are still living in town and have yet to be replaced with vacationing families and college students. The store is really clean and well stocked. They really do need to put more cashiers on the front lines.…

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) acts as America’s safety net and is the main foundation for nutrition assistance programs. The program offers over 50 million participants in approximately 23 million low-income households with cards they can use to purchase food each month. Because eligibility is not limited to restricted, SNAP serves different kinds of people who live in low-income households, this includes families with children, disabled people, elderly folks, and those who are temporarily unemployed. “About 72% of SNAP recipients live in households with children; more than one-quarter live in households with seniors or people with disabilities.” Although the SNAP program offers many types of benefits such as food security,…

The items that can be bought with an EBT card is problematic also. The biggest problem I have with food stamps is what can be purchased with them. According to Food and Nutrition Service, soft drinks, candy, cookies, snack crackers, ice cream, sea food and cakes are food items and therefore can be purchased (Payton). The welfare program in the United States is abused by many Americans. Citizens in the program get their sense of responsibility muted causing dependency on the government. The government does not give its users a limit of how many people they will provide for, causing them to have bigger families in return for more money. There is a misuse of government grants and aids, and many abuse the money received. Welfare is intended to be an aid for the citizens who have an actual need for it while they become financially stable.…

With the holidays around the corner and the biggest shopping night of the year companies need to plan what they want to sell on their shelves months ahead. By having excellent inventory management these companies in so many industries are able to become more successful. I agree with the statement, inventory management is the heart of the supply chain which has been said by many business experts. Without proper inventory management issues can and will occur upstream and downstream of the supply chain. Companies have been able to reduce costs by properly managing their inventory, “Hewlett Packard achieved more than $130 million in total inventory savings” (supplychain) Companies that properly use an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system are able to have visibility of what inventory they have throughout their company.…
