Project Student Reflection

When registering for Project FOCUS this year, I thought that it would be just as simple and “cookie cutter” as it was last year. Although it definitely was just as enjoyable, it proved to be much more of a rocky road. My class was extremely inclusive in that there were just as many students with special needs as there were without. This was a big jump for me because nearly all off my students last year were at a relatively similar learning level, and this year it was a more polar experience. Working in Ms. Evans class this semester taught me a lot, mainly to be patient with student and to be patient with myself even when all of my teaching tactics seem to not be effective. Specifically, my students taught me a lot this semester. They taught …show more content…
I wish I had not come into it with the expectations that my classroom would be anything like my old classroom. One of the reasons that I was extremely interested in taking Project FOCUS for a second time was the ability for me to go right into teaching without having to overcome such a large learning curve. Unfortunately, Ms. Williams, my classroom teacher from last year moves out of state and I was introduced to an entirely new learning curve at the start of this semester. Once again, this taught me that value in being adaptable, something that I often struggle …show more content…
I hate that my students will be moving on to first grade next year, because I can’t teach them in the classroom anymore. Luckily, I work at Chase Street, so I will still be able to be with my students that attend the after school program. Each of my students has individually made a lasting impression on me, not only as a teacher, but as a person and a student myself. My relationship with Ms. Evans has grown profoundly. It began as me just being her after school co-worker to me being an active part of her classes learning several times a week. We bounce teaching ideas off of each other, we joke, and talk about the latest news, all while managing to effectively teach our students. I even found out that we attended the same high school. Although I will not be doing Project FOCUS for a third time, I have thoroughly enjoyed the last two semester that I have spent in this course and will continue to stay involved in local classrooms for the remainder of my college career and

In the spring, they helped me run a clothing drive for Cradles To Crayons with my school and I even went to a reunion where we joined together again in Gillette Stadium and did community service. In the fall, when high school started, I heard about a peer leadership program at Girls Inc., an after school program I’d been attending since elementary school. Coming back from the experience of Project 351, I decided to apply. A week later, I found out I got in. The program was called Part of the Solution (POS).…

Over the course of Dramatic Literature, we read and explored many important issues through literature. A moment that I found particularly powerful is when we read The Laramie Project and created interviews on the truth in drama through the production of our own documentary theater. My group conducted an interview on the question: is it okay for guys to sleep around, but not girls? In conducting the interview, the responses we got were overall the same. Many of the people we interviewed responded that it’s not okay for guys to sleep around, but not girls.…

Not only do the projects better the community around them, they also build up each of the members teamwork capabilities, and enhance their leadership qualities. They go out of their way to challenge themselves, and grow to be the best they can be. I found ways to challenge myself as well. Not only do I strive for academic perfection, but I aim to grow as much as possible, especially in my favorite class, math. At the beginning of this school year, I continued on with the required course and took on an additional math class to help further my knowledge in this field.…

It was a fun way to work as a team and accomplish a much-needed task in the community. This project bettered the lives of children in the Des Moines area that do not have much which, in return is more rewarding than a lot of accomplishments in life. Through this project I learned how to conduct a community service project if I wanted to one in the future. Simple delegation and time management is all that is needed to make a project like this successful. Knowing that we helped a small population with a small class, I can only imagine how many children a group at a hospital could help if they all worked…

Portfolio reviewers: My pre-ECU 2201 experience was my English 1100 course. While taking this class online, I learned how to make an interesting essay. Though this class didn 't require much research, it taught me how to write an interesting essay. Most of the time the professor gave us the decision to write whatever we wanted to write on. There might been some times where he wanted us to write a specific topic, but still had the chance to write whatever we wanted within the topic.…

Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

There are several concepts we learned about in my community class that apply to my service work. We Care Arts strives to not only stabilize members of the community with disabilities, but they also recognize the need across the entire community and travel to schools, nursing homes, and even hospitals to give art lessons. In this way, We Care Arts strives to help develop the greater Dayton community and not just their clients. In class, we learned about what it means to work towards community development. While some people believe that community development is strictly an economical choice, developing a community also requires getting citizens to care about the future of their city.…

Before even entering high school, I made a decision that would ruin the next few years. Looking back, I had no idea it would have impacted me as much as it did, but even now I still wouldn’t have changed that decision. Everything that came after that decision, no matter how difficult, shaped me into who I am today, and I was able to meet some pretty amazing people and do a few things only a handful of people can say they’ve done. In elementary school, I was in the S.C.O.P.E. (Spotsylvania County Program of Enrichment) program, my county’s way of separating out students who they considered gifted and a distraction in the classroom.…

Reflection When signing up to take the Final Project Course this fall I was extremely nervous and not excited to start. Walking into the first day of class and learning more about what the final project would entail, I did feel slightly better but still scared that it was going to be too overwhelming and hard to complete by myself. Luckily, the individual meetings and emails with my professor made everything much more clear and inviting. These final project meetings were very helpful in terms of receiving constructive criticism and then going back home to make changes to the paper.…

Overall, I was extremely happy with the effort my group put into this project. In terms of attending the group meetings, everyone was present and participated in the discussion. The first meeting took place on a Sunday afternoon at Baruch and the second meeting took place on a weeknight in the form of a Google Hangout. The times and places of these meetings alone displayed every group members’ commitment to the project, effort to accommodate for scheduling conflicts, and effort to ensure they are contributing their fair share to the group regardless the time or day of the week. At these meetings, we discussed ways to engage the crowd and critiqued each other’s slides and presentations.…
