In Donna Vorreyer’s poem, “Wallflowers”, she welcomes more obscure words that are “longing” to finally be rescued from their obsoleteness through use of personification and child imagery (Line 9). In the beginning of her poem, Vorreyer personifies newfound words as sentient beings that she can “woo” and “welcome” until they are “loved”, which, oddly enough, makes the reader almost connect to the language on a personal level. Furthermore, Vorreyer asks of the fate of words “no one speaks” to then hypothesize how words could possibly “wait bitterly” or “patiently” until someone finally decides to employ them (Line 6,7,11).
