As an illiterate adolescent, in a drug infested environment, at age 14 Curtis Wall Street Carroll felt hopeless towards his future, which contributed to Carroll burglarizing an arcade game bowling alley. He was apprehended and detained in a juvenile detention center and later released into the custody of his mother. Sometime afterward this ordeal, Carroll at the age 17 was consequently incarcerated for a robbery and murder. While imprisoned, he came to the realization that money was more value in jail than in society. One-day Carroll mistakenly picked up the business section of the newspaper so another inmate could read to him, and a fellow inmate fundamental explained the stock markets to Carroll, which he discerned hope for the future.
