The times that I had to go there, I distinctly remember the clinic being overfilled with patients that needed attention. In addition many people in the community still believed in traditional methods such as herbs and plants to cure or prevent diseases and refused to go to the clinic. I want to gain the knowledge that will allow me to become a doctor and be able to do some volunteer work in my home country. In high school I decided that I wanted to continue learning about science and pursued a chemistry and math double major. Freshman year I joined the pre-med club which reinforced my desire to study medicine and become a doctor. Although I have never experienced actual volunteer work at a hospital or clinic, I have helped people whose primary language is not English. By being a translator to these people, they were able to receive the medical treatment that they needed, while allowing me to participate in a medical setting. I understood the trust that people place in nurses and doctors, and the amount of trust they were placing on me to correctly describe their symptoms made me feel like I was truly helping them. By gaining acceptance into medical school I will be one step closer to becoming a doctor and helping people through the medical field. These school years of my life were like the middle hours of that walk in the desert, I was tired and losing hope that we
